The first feature by artist Shirin Neshat, based on Shahrnush Parsipur's novel of the same name, the film follows four women who find solace and companionship in an orchard garden during Iran’s 1953 CIA-backed coup d'Γ©tat.

 

Shirin Neshat is an Iranian visual artist whose work in film and photography explores the contrasts between Islam and the West. She has won the International Award at the Venice Biennale and the Silver Lion for Best Director at the Venice Film Festival for her film Women Without Men.
